Personal Development, Health and Physical Education

Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.

PDHPE is a very dynamic area of study. PDHPE contributes significantly to the cognitive, social, emotional, physical and spiritual development of students. It provides opportunities for students to learn about and practice ways of adopting and maintaining a healthy, productive and active lifestyle. It also involves students learning through movement experiences that are both challenging and enjoyable and promotes the value of physical activity in their lives.

At Kincumber High School, the PDHPE Faculty is passionate about providing students with the opportunity to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health and wellbeing of themselves and others, now and in the future.

Across Years 7-10 (Stages 4-5), students complete the mandatory course of PDHPE. In Years 9-10, students will also have the opportunity to complete the Sports Studies Elective.

Students actively take part in team-building exercises, various excursions and have the opportunity to gain accreditation in First Aid, Bronze Medallion and General Principles of Coaching.

According to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), students are expected to participate in PDHPE for 300 hours per year in Years 7 to 10.

PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues that are likely to impact on the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others – now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.

In Years 11-12 (Stage 6), students have a variety of PDHPE courses to select and they appeal to many students at Kincumber High School. These courses include:

  • Personal Development, Health and Physical Education
  • Community and Family Studies
  • Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation

PDHPE staff are passionate about their subject areas, lesson preparation and assessing student learning in a meaningful manner. Students also feel supported and guided through the many enrichment opportunities provided by the PDHPE staff.
