Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

Special Religious Education (SRE) will be offered to students in Year 7 and 8 who have identified as Catholic. We have an obligation to provide SRE to students when the provider approaches the school and is on the Approved Providers List.

The SRE program in 2022 will occur  on the following dates:

  • Term 1 - Monday 4 April
  • Term 2 - Monday 27 June - session cancelled.
  • Term 3 - Monday 19 September
  • Term 4 - Monday 28 November

The session for Year 7 will be in Period 4, and the session for Year 8 will be in Period 5 on the dates above. Rooming to be announced on the day through the daily notices.

The curriculum that will be delivered in these SRE sessions is derived from resources from the Diocese of Broken Bay and is accessible through the following link: and by following these headings/tabs:
